19" (48 cm.) Seated on a wooden chair behind a wooden needlepoint frame is a bisque-headed doll with blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with shaded lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig with long braids, carton torso and legs posed seated, metal upper arms, composition forearms, and wearing silk gown with woolen shawl. Condition: very good, music and mechanism function well, left arm works willfully. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau 5 (head). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890, the model appeared in the catalog of that firm as model 309, named "Tapisseuse". When wound, music plays, the doll lifts her head, turns and nods. Her fingers work busily over the needlework on frame adding stitches to the message "Bon Joyeaux Noel" which she is weaving onto the canvas. Value Points: rare automaton with charming vignette and actions.
