Description
13" (33 cm.) h. 11" l. base. 6" dolls. Arranged upon a wooden base with lithographed paper cover to simulate garden grass is a wire-framed arbor with silk flowers and leaves, under which are posed three bisque head dolls at a tea party. Each doll has bisque head, glass inset eyes, open mouth, mohair wig, wooden lower limbs and original costume. Standing at the back is the chef, holding a tray with cake, while two dolls are seated, holding pewter tea cups. When handwound, merry music plays, and the chef passes the tray from right to left as though serving, while the dolls lift their tea cups up and down. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, Zinner and Sohne, circa 1890. Value Points: delightful menage with wonderful vigorous movements and music.
