Carved wooden shoulderhead with very angular sharp-featured face, strong nose and chin, blue enamel eyes, carved mouth with definition between her lips, deeply incised age lines and gaunt cheeks, grey mohair wig, closed mouth, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted black heeled shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, unknown folk artist, late 1800s. Value Points: highly personalized features suggests portrait of particular, yet unknown, older woman, original painting, sturdy body, original brown gown with black trim and buttons, brown and black bonnet.
