11" (28 cm.) Carved wooden socket head, tinted gofun finish to denote fierceness, inset glass eyes, wing-shaped brows, broad nose, open mouth, shadowed suggestion of moustache and beard, bald pate with silk fiber hair inserted in side slits and pulled into tied topknot, carved wooden hands and lower legs. He is posed kneeling, wearing patterned trousers that extend to fitted stockings and shoes, leg guards, silk brocade kimono, paper lacquer armor with gilt trim, silk waist tie, and carrying a sword. Very good some rubs to complexion. Meiji era, late 1900s.
