Description
18" (46 cm.) seated. Stitch-shaped stockinette depicting aged lady with painted highlights including up-glancing eyes, greying brows, gentle smile on closed lips, and with stitched age wrinkles, white mohair wig under cotton head wrap, wrapped armature body posed seated. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Original Ravca Paris (paper label). Comments: Bernard Ravca, 1930s, the doll is wearing her original Ravca studio costume of Brittany village, comprising cotton skirt, apron, blouse, and scarf (each a different pattern), woolen shawl, wooden clogs, and holding a stockinette taufling baby in her arms. Value Points: pristine original costume, the doll was exhibited at the New York 1939 International World's Fair and bears her exhibition label on shoe underside. Included with the doll is a country-style wooden ladder back chair.
