19" (48 cm.) Earthenware shoulder head with well-defined facial features, sculpted fitted cap with upturned brim above sculpted hair, defined sculpted ears, enamel inset eyes, painted brows, strong nose and jawline, closed mouth, darkened complexion with glazed patina, hemp-wrapped bodice, very expressive fingers, carved wooden lower legs and shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, early 1800s, depicted is a wealthy merchant. Value Points: rare figure with sculpted cap, larger size, and wearing fine original silk and linen costume.
