15" (38 cm.) Carved wooden socket head, amber tinted complexion, carved black hair in side-parted mannish fashion, facial features of adult with strong nose and cheek bones, deeply sculpted half-moon brown-painted eyes with defined heavy lids, eyeliner, thick curvy black brows, cheek blush, closed mouth, wooden spring-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, delicate nose rub. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1915, the figure incorporates a unique painting of Schoenhut’s "Manikin" head with classic Schoenhut child body, described in Carol Corson’s Schoenhut Dolls, A Collector’s Encyclopedia. Value Points: exceptionally rare special-commission doll representing Japanese Man, of which less than 10 are known to exist; with superb painting, and wearing its original multi-layered Japanese costume, in superb state of preservation.
