16" (41 cm.) All-cloth doll with flat-dimensional face and delicately hand-painted facial features and curly hair, large outlined shaded blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, defined nostrils, closed mouth with heart- shaped upper lip, muslin stitch-jointed body with defined fingers of mitten-shaped hands, antique cotton dress, apron, undergarments, leather laced ankle boots with little heels. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: the ladies of the First Presbyterian Church of Bucyrus, Ohio made the beautifully executed cloth dolls from 1885 onward as a fund-raiser for their church, this being an early example of their work. Value Points: very fine original condition of the rare doll with most appealing painted of features, original costume, wonderful shoes, seated in wooden chair which is included.
