Description
25" (64 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head, lightly-painted boyish hair, over-sized ears, painted facial features, small pale blue eyes, thick black upper eyeliner, rounded nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with outlined lips, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique boy's costume including plaid wooden hooded coat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: W.S.K. 130 Germany. Comments: Adolf Wislizensus, circa 1911, from the rare series of art character dolls introduced in that year under the new directorship of Hans Heincke. The art character dolls of Kammer and Reinhardt and Gebruder Heubach mostly controlled the market share, so few buyers were found for Wislizensus art dolls; production was very small and for a short period only making them very rare today. Value Points: rare model with outstanding bisque and sculpting especially the impressed double-dimples at each cheek, crinkles at eye corners, and double chin.
