Description
14" (36 cm.) Standing upon a platform is a bisque head doll with socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, hollow plump torso; a metal rod with ball handle is attached to his arms, and when moved up and down, his arms wave up and down. Condition: generally excellent, movement of arms functions well. Marks: M 2. Comments: May Freres, circa 1895, the doll was uniquely commissioned for use as a promotion object, likely for a luxury Parisian candy store. Value Points: the gentleman doll is wearing his original elaborate Marquis costume with gilt fretwork edging, matching bi-corn hat, which is in near mint condition.
