20" (51 cm.) Firmly stuffed black stockinette head with stitch-shaped facial features, cut-out eye sockets with black bead eyes over applique eye whites, stitched lashes, red lower eyeliner, embroidered nostrils and mouth, black yarn-stitched fleecy hair, muslin stitch-jointed body, separate thumb, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: American, the model is known as "Beecher-type" for its resemblance to the Missionary Ragbabies made by Julia Beecher, circa 1900. Value Points: impeccably preserved condition of the well-constructed black folk doll.
