12 1/2" (32 cm.) Carved wooden head and torso to waist with shapely bosom, elongated throat, sculpted and painted dark brown hair with gilt edged diadem at her crown and shaded ringlet curls onto her forehead, outlined small brown eyes, painted upper lashes, feathered brows, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, kid-over wooden upper torso with high waist , elongated kid lower limbs, carved wooden lower arms with spatula-shaped hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: circa 1830, probably French. Value Points: rare doll with fine original complexion, beautifully painted hair and diadem, rare body, with original dotted Swiss early voile gown. The doll has a blue ribbon award from 1998 UFDC convention and was written about by Estelle Johnston in a 1991 article "Dolls with Molded Brown Hair" in Doll Reader.
