8" (20 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes, single-stroke brows, strong aquiline nose, closed mouth, lips hidden under very prominent modeled bushy gray mustache and beard, gray side-parted hair, black flannel Admiral's cap over cut pate, composition body jointed at shoulders and hips. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 17 SC. Comments: portrait of the American hero, Admiral Sampson, the model was registered in 1898 by Cuno and Otto Dressel, and designed to appeal to patriotic American spirit aroused by the Spanish American war of that time. Value Points: rare model with exacting portraiture of Sampson, fine quality of bisque, original uniform.
