21" (53 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head portraying an adult lady, black sculpted hair with two formed curls onto the forehead, side curls waved away over earlobes with tiny curl above each ear, a braided hair coronet at her crown that encloses a "brioche" of curls at her back head, and surmounts a small braided chignon on her neck; with oval-shaped face, strong throat with well-defined throat hollow, painted blue eyes with heavily modeled eyelids, red and black upper eyeliner, thick-stroke brows, strong nose, closed mouth with primly set lips, and partially sculpted ears, muslin stitch-jointed body with porcelain lower arms, wearing a striped magenta/black silk dress with lace trim, antique cameo brooch, and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1875, A.W. Fr. Kister, an identical model in bisque with blonde hair is shown in Identifying German Parian Dolls by Krombholz. Value Points: rare model with highly characterized features, rare coiffure in usual darkest brown/black shading. Ex-Margaret Hartshorn Collection.
