12" (30 cm.) Carved bone head with very angular-shaped face and well-defined features, aquiline nose, enamel inset eyes, painted lower lashes, closed mouth, sculpted ears, carved wooden body with attached carved bone hands and feet, dowel-jointing at shoulders and elbows superbly detailed sculpting of fingers, wearing antique brown linen monk's robes with various accessories. Condition: generally excellent, some light rubs on painted hair. Comments: early 1800s. Value Points: outstanding quality of carving with articulation of arms, fine sculpting of hands and expressive facial demeanor.
