Rare Neapolitan Mother and Child on Original Gilt Base

10" (25 cm.) Standing upon a gold-leaf painted wooden base are two polychromed terra cotta dolls, each with dramatically-coiffed short brown curly hair, enamel inset eyes, solemn expression, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, in vintage-era silk costume. Excellent condition, there is restoration to the boy's wrist where attached to mother's hand. Neapolitan, late 1700s, depicted is a loving mother as she softly gazes at her young child who, in turn, returns her gaze.
