Description
18" (46 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very full lower cheeks and chin, transitional pear-shaped face, high domed forehead, almond-shaped blue glass enamel eyes with spiral threading, thick black eyeliner, delicately-painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, lightly-feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists and flat-cut derriere, nicely costumed in antique silk dress, fancy bonnet, undergarments, stockings, leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sch (in shield mark) 3 (head) Sch (shield mark on derriere). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1880, the facial model is a rare transition between the plump round-faced earliest model and the pear-shaped second model bebe. Value Points: very fine quality of sculpting including dimpled chin, philtrum, expressive lips, pointy nose, enhanced by gorgeous painting of facial features and blush, original body and body finish. Ex-collection June Ellen Lane.
