10" (25 cm.) Of cast metal, depicting aged man with brown painted hood, painted facial features, long moustache and beard, metal torso containing mechanism, wooden legs, over-sized metal feet with wooden rollers hidden inside the shoes. When wound, the figure moves forward. Condition, mechanism functions well, original painted finish with some light flaking on hood, costume has some wear. Comments: patented by Arthur Hotchkiss in 1875, made by Ives Company; the toy was made in a series of nine different models, this designed to portray Santa Claus. Value Points: the rare early American toy is preserved in his original box with relics of paper label.
