Description
4" (10 cm.) x 2 1/2". The rectangular box with rich gilt plated finish has elaborately embossed details of scrolls, garlands, a cornucopia of flowers at the front, and an oval lid on the top with an engraving of two birds. When wound, the lid pops open and the tiny feathered bird pops up, turning side to side and flitting his tail feathers, while singing his bird songs, and then popping down as the lid closes. Excellent condition, mechanism functions well, original key is preserved in hinged compartment at the back. Swiss, Griesbaum, early 1900s.
