15" (38 cm.) Each has bisque socket head depicting a highly characterized mischievous boy with impish expression, small brown glass flirty eyes, thick black or brown comma-shaped brows, black eyeliner around the eye sockets, upturned nose, accented nostrils, closed mouth with beaming smile, shaded lips, deeply impressed laughter lines on cheeks, black or red mohair wig, original composition ball-jointed toddler body with sculpted stockings and black or brown heeled shoes, urchin costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R Simon & Halbig 123 (or 124). Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, "Max" and "Moritz" from their character series, circa 1912, based upon the 1800s children's adventure stories written by Wilhelm Busch, and later made famous in the American comic strip series, The Katzenjammer Kids. Value Points: the very rare and unique facial models were sculpted for these two dolls only, with exemplary bisque, sculpting and painting, and with original bodies that also were sculpted for these models only. Few intact sets of the two matched dolls are known to exist.
