Description
19" (48 cm.) Posed en pointe upon a velvet-covered large wooden platform is a ballerina with bisque head, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, open mouth with tiny porcelain teeth, brunette mohair wig, and having a shapely lady torso with bisque shoulder plate, long slender shapely legs, and bisque forearms, wearing original silk and lace ballerina costume with gold braid edging trimmed with tiny pearl beads, matching bonnet, silk ballet slippers, and holds a garland of silk flowers and berries. When wound, music plays and she pirouettes en pointe, moves her left leg forward and backward in an elegant sweep, while inclining her upper torso side to side and moving her arms up and down. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 2 (head). Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890, with bisque head from Emile Jumeau, the popular ballet theme was developed into automaton themes by several makers during this time. Value Points: rare automaton gracefully and realistically captures classic ballet movements with grace and elegance, and is preserved with beautiful original costume, wig, and accessories in her original wooden box.
