19" (48 cm.) and 19" Each has paper mache head with painted complexion and facial features, brown eyes, grey eye shadow, closed mouth, the man with sculpted and painted grey beard, each with original mohair wig, firmly-stuffed muslin body and hand-stitched kid leather arms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, mid-1800s. Value Points: outstanding state of preservation of the early couple, each wearing multi-layered detailed traditional costume of Brittany with wonderful fabrics, she with hand-printed shawl, gilt cross, and superb lace coiffe.
