9" (23 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head with oval-shaped face and solid dome, painted black pate under original wig, painted complexion and facial features, blue eyes, black upper eyeliner and brows, closed mouth, slender kid body, wooden lower arms and legs, painted flat black shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1850, the doll wears a simple early handmade gown and wrapped turban; under the gown is a "skirt" of folded fortunes in Danish (? )language. Value Points: appealing size and variation of the "fortune-telling" doll retaining a generous skirt of hand-written ink fortunes.
