23" (58 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump rounded face, very full cheeks, large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, outlined eye socket, delicately painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, mauve blushed eye shadow, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with heart-shaped upper lip, outlined lips, impressed dimples at philtrum and lip corners, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists and flat-cut derriere. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sch x (in shield, on head and flat cut of derriere, 4 on head). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1880. Value Points: rare larger size of the early round-faced bebe model by this luminary French doll firm has finest bisque and painting, original body and body finish, and is wearing fine antique costume of cream cashmere with lambswool trim, silk bonnet, undergarments, leather boots.
