18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head, very full cheeks, small blue glass sleep eyes with black upper eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with smiling expression, accented lips, row of sculpted teeth, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 125 6 Germany (head). Comments: Adolf Wislizensus, circa 1910, the firm advertised a series of "charakterpuppen" that year, naming the series "Gretchen" and noting "all character series with painted as well as movable glass eyes"; the model was shown in their 1911 advertisements. Value Points: very rare character with wonderful laughing expression, very choice bisque, wearing beautiful antique costume, ermine-tipped muff, embroidered cashmere cap, undergarments, shoes, brass purse.
