Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque swivel head on bisque shoulder plate,blue glass paperweight eyes,closed mouth,painted facial features,blonde mohair wig,cork pate,kid gusset jointed body,separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Jumeau,circa 1880. Value Points: the lady is costumed as a fortune-teller or "poupee a bonne aventure",having a skirt formed of 100's of folded paper fortunes,in French,with humorous societal commentary,e.g. "just between us,a man without money is like a big body without movement." (translated).) The costume details include wire-hooped red silk petticoat,embroidered stockings,velvet jacket with glass bead tassels,leather slippers,original Jumeau earrings,hair ornaments. The fortune teller is posed on a very rare original maple wood pedestal and holds a red silk flag which reads (translated) "In the folds of my dress,O blessed mortals. you will find my true judgements".
