Description
13" (33 cm.) A bisque-head lady and gentleman with blue glass enamel eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouths, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig in elaborate fashion (he with periwig, she with braided chignon),carton torso, she with metal cone skirt that hides the mechanism, and he with paper mache legs, each with bisque arms uniquely modeled with bent or curved elbows to form a realistic dance pose, costumed in grey silk satin with lace and floral trim in the 18th century manner. The man appears to be standing on the floor but is actually attached to a hidden metal rod from the cone skirt of the woman; when wound, they glide in circles, and forward while music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Gustav Vichy, circa 1870,the construction and style is nearly identical to the Theroude waltzing couple of two decades earlier. Value Points: beautiful faces and fine quality bisque of both dolls, original elaborate costumes,well-functioning with graceful and refined movements, original tune label indicating two tunes.
