27" (69 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate,narrow almond-shaped blue glass inset eyes,dark eyeliner,painted lashes,feathered arched brows,mauve-blushed eye shadow,shaded nostrils,accented eye corners,closed mouth,pale outlined lips with upturned lip corners,pierced ears,kid poupee body with gusset-jointing at elbows,hips and knees,stitched and separated fingers,wearing original (frail) ivory silk faille gown,matching bonnet,undergarments,leather shoes,earrings. Condition: generally excellent,body very sturdy. Marks: L (head and shoulder plate) Depose (forehead). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru,circa 1872,his model of the smiling poupee,was deposed in that year; various opinions as to the inspiration of the face include a portrait of the beloved Empress Eugenie. Value Points: the rare largest model size of the portrait poupee is virtually unknown to exist,likely created as an exhibition model,and this example with superlative bisque,painting,expression,and with original body and gown.
