Description
8" (20 cm.) x 6" x 3 1/2"h. Of finest woods, the box is shaped with bombe top and sides, and is trimmed with black narrow striping; and has bone feet and bail handles. It opens to a mirrored back with coral velvet edging, and velvet-lined fitted tray with rose-silk edged recesses and an embroidered velvet panel at the back. Designed as both a sewing and pen box, with original mother-of-pearl and gold tools, three with original Palais Royal pansy emblem, including seal, pen and gold-capped inkwells, scissors, thimble, needle case with eagle head, two thread winders, gold-capped perfume bottle, and five additional tools. The tray lifts out to reveal hidden compartment below, and the box has original lock and key. Excellent condition. French, Palais Royal, circa 1810.
