23" (58 cm.) Bisque socket head with rounded facial shape depicting a beaming faced child, small blue glass sleep eyes in almond shape, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly parted lips with accented details, four porcelain teeth, blonde mohair bobbed wig, composition five piece chubby toddler body, wearing yellow cotton ruffled dress that appears original, undergarments, shoes, socks, straw hat. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Porzellanfabrick Burggrub Princess Elizabeth 6 1/ 2 made in Germany DRGM. Comments: Arthur Schoneau, 1931/2, the doll was made for two years only, in three sizes, this being the largest. Representing Princess Elizabeth at the age of three the doll was sculpted by German artist Caesar Schneider, and received the approval of the British royal family (the story of the doll is told in Cieslik's German Doll Studies, page 309). Value Points: rare largest size, superior bisque and painting, unique model, wonderful body details on toddler body, including framed postcard of a child holding the doll as a birthday gift, the doll wearing this costume.
