Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque socket head, intaglio painted blue eyes with large black pupils, well-defined eye sockets, brushstroked brows, pronounced rounded nose, closed mouth in wide beaming smile with painted teeth and tongue tip, blonde mohair wig, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body, antique gentleman’s costume and cap. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Dep T.H. Germany 09. Comments: Theodore Hornlein of Sonneberg, this is likely the DRGM that he registered in 1909 as "character doll head", his contribution to the art character reform movement of that year. Value Points: very rare character with wonderfully-expressive features highlighted by impressed dimples.
