Description
10" (25 cm.) and 11". Each has carved wooden head with deeply-sculpted and painted facial features and hair, wooden hands and feet, cloth body, with original costume by the artist. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: both created by Chicago artist, Avis Lee, 1940s, from the mid-century collection of Emily Kasch where they have been preserved until this time. Value Points: depicted are"Matthew Thorne", a typical New England schoolmaster of 1774, with book and walking stick and with original signed description tag by Avis Lee; and a "Dutch Rattlewatch", the first policeman of New Amsterdam, with lantern.
