26" (66 cm.) Bisque socket head, amber brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, impressed dimples in chin and philtrum, separately modeled pierced ears, brunette human hair over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 12 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1884, his wistful-faced model known as Bebe Triste, from original sculpture by Parisian artist Carrier-Belleuse. Value Points: deeply-defined modeling with delicate blushing on the beautiful child doll, with original plump body and body finish, antique lace and silk ribbon dress, velvet bonnet, net stockings, undergarments, leather shoes with silk rosettes signed Paris Depose.
