9" (23 cm.) square. 10"h. Arranged atop a wooden base designed to appear as though a stone pediment are four carved wooden laborers busily at work in different manners. Each figure stands at his place, including man at anvil, man turning a large wheel to activate a knife sharpener to which another man is holding a tool to be sharpened, and a man standing at fire-inflamed metals which are being cooled by the large bellows which he activates. Each figure has original painting and costume. When wound at the side and lever pulled, the men work slowly. Excellent condition. Early 1800s.
