Description
18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, open mouth, shaded lips, two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, kid-covered carton torso with clockwork mechanism, kid over hinged upper legs, paper mache arms and lower legs, bare feet. When wound, the doll turns its head side to side, waves arms and legs, and cries "mama". Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (original Simonne label on back torso). Comments: Jules Steiner, his Bebe Gigoteur, circa 1880, this being the smallest size made. Value Points: in pristine original condition, the doll has most beautiful bisque and eyes, wearing elaborate original multi-layered costume and bonnet, and is seated in original maple high chair with cane seat, and with rare original boutique label indicating its original store presentation.
