Description
14" (36 cm.) x 11". Formed of heavy card stock, each depicts a village building with detailed painting and applique paper architectural details, and having a removable small turret roof. When sand is poured into the turret, various mechanical actions occur. In one,a man and woman move their hinged arms, hammering the mallets they hold, while a waterwheel turns, a woman feeds chickens, and a lamb moves its head up and down; in the other, three different people perform various activities. The sand pours into the box-like receptacles below where it is stored. Condition: very good, some play wear. Comments: Continental, circa 1850. Value Points: rare early toys with intricate motions.
