14" (36 cm.) doll. 18" with stand. A bisque-head doll with portrait-like slender face, aquiline nose, blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette human hair wig, has armor-clad leather body, the armor of finely cast metal with chain link arm covering. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1. Comments: French, maker unknown, the doll represents Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc), early 1860s, possibly 1863 which was the 60th anniversary of Jeanne d'Arc being declared the national symbol of France by Napoleon. Value Points: very rare doll, few examples are known to exist, with portrait like face, extraordinary costume with authentic details of armor, metal leggings and helmet, and carrying sword in leather strap and lance, and mounted on original wooden stand.
