Description
7" (18 cm.) h. secretary desk and armoire. Of light wood with lithographed paper cover to simulate richly-grained exotic rosewood, the ensemble has decorative beading at each edge, wooden drawer pulls, and gilded paper edging on the purple velvet upholstered sofa and six chairs. Included are secretary desk with drop front to blue paper lined surface; glass front armoire with blue paper and mirrored lining, washstand with hinged lid and interior mirror, tall mirror, circular pedestal table, rectangular library table, rolled back sofa, and six chairs with shapely-carved backs and elegantly-shaped legs. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, an early set, circa 1850, likely for the French market as the hand-script label on the original packing wooden box reads "chambre de poupee". Value Points: rare early set in remarkably complete, and wonderfully-preserved in original box.
