26" (66 cm.) Stockinette cloth head with pressed and oil-painted black complexion, painted black eyes with white eye dot in each eye, black upper eyeliner, black painted brows, broad nose, wide beaming gentle smile on closed mouth, stitch-shaped ears, stitched-on black fleecy hair, firmly-stuffed dark brown muslin torso, stitch-jointed black oil-painted hands and bare feet, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (Chase original paper label on torso). Comments: Martha Chase, circa 1895, the exceptional size suggests its possible origin as an exhibition model. Value Points: rare doll with realistic sculpting and portrayal retains its fine original painted finish.
