17" (43 cm.) Standing upon a tinplate platform with three spoked wheels, which are hidden by her long gown, is a lady with paper mache shoulder head, black enamel eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, open mouth with two rows of tiny teeth, white mohair wig, slender shapely carton torso and legs. kid arms in fixed bent elbow pose. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Theroude, circa 1850, when wound, the lady glides forward and turns from side to side while her right arm moves up and down. Value Points: fine original condition of the rare early doll with most beautiful complexion, fine gown of silk and lace with matching jewelry and tricorn hat, complemented by elegant gliding movement.
