10" (25 cm.) l. box, 6"l ladder. A wooden box unfolds into a series of steps. Stored with a hidden drawer is a wooden ladder with two rod-attached paper mache acrobat performers, each with sculpted hair and hat, painted and silk costumes with gilt paper trim and over-sized feet. When the ladder is placed on the steps, the acrobats tumble over and over as though performing acrobatic tricks. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1840. Value Points: rare early toy with original costumes, delightful performance.
