Description
21" (53 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and chin, delicate complexion, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye shadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with delicately-shaped outlined lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: J (symbol) M. Comments: Mothereau, early period bebe, circa 1878. The Mothereau firm was short-lived, creating dolls only from about 1878 to 1882, in very limited production. Value Points: rare doll with beautiful modeling, very fine quality of bisque and delicate painting highlighted by finest painting of lips, beautiful antique silk dress, ruffled bonnet, undergarments, leather shoes.
