Description
17" (43 cm.) by 14". Arranged on the front of a wooden frame is a die-cut scene of Santa Claus in purple robes showing toys to the boys and girls who surround him. When wound at the back, the Santa lifts his arm up and down causing the puppet to dance, while the children eagerly jump about and reach for the toy. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Marks: Santa Claus Christmas Presents No. 45819 (original label inside box along with instructions for use). Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1890, the base of the box was intended to serve as a shadowbox for hanging the toy on the wall inside a frame supplied by the owner. Value Points: wonderfully festive scene with vibrant colors and activity, the very rare toy preserved in its original box.
