Description
20" (51 cm.) Of fine mahogany and cherry, the secretaire has a white marble top, ogee-shaped crest, and beautifully-shaped front with flat drop-front desk surface above two dove-tailed drawers. The desk interior features a leather-covered writing surface with centered gilt-lettered "X", and various drawers and niches. There is a brass key for the desk front, and the two lower drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons. Excellent condition. French, circa 1825, a superb piece of cabinetry surely created as a maitrise model, and, in addition to features described above, has three secret drawers.
