Description
13" (33 cm.) Each has bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, arched brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, muslin poupee body with kid arms, stitched and separated fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1885, the lady and gentleman wear well-detailed original multi-layered folklore costumes of the Bearnaise region of France, including distinctive shoes, embroidered vest of woman, and coiffe. Value Points: perfectly-preserved in the original family home, the dolls were displayed at the 1933 Exposition de la Poupee in Lyon, France; their original display placard is included. Also included are two additional regional costumes.
