22" (56 cm.) Bisque socket head with highly-artistic sculpting, unique four-part mold used only for this doll, elongated slender throat, pronounced definition of facial planes especially temple, cheeks and chin line, softly-rounded nose tip, brown glass paperweight eyes, painted dark curly lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth, outlined lips, well-modeled pierced ears, brunette hand-tied human hair wig, original uniquely modeled body with elongated tapered-shape torso, wide hips, undefined waist, composition upper arms, bisque lower arms with bisque attached-ball-joints at the elbows, separately sculpted fingers, wide upper thighs, elongated lower legs with shapely calves, elongated narrow feet. Condition: restoration to the left side and back of head, throat and upper crown rim. The face, facial complexion and painting of features is original, body is original with restoration to the elbow bisque ball joints, perfect bisque hands, original body finish. Marks: A. Marque (incised signature on head).???beth 1860 No.11 (pencil inscription on foot indicating the nature of the original costume). Comments: France, circa 1916, the artistic doll was sculpted by the esteemed French artist, Albert Marque, with commissioned unique body designed by Aristodeme Botta. It is believed that only 100 models of the Marque doll were created. Value Points: the signature doll of the French Renaissance doll movement of the 20th century has superb sculpting, original painting of features and facial complexion, original body with pencil inscription on foot.
