22" (56 cm.) All-cloth doll with stitched-on firmly pressed stockinette head with oil-painted complexion and features, large brown eyes, painted brows, closed mouth with rich red lips, brown fleeced yarn braids, muslin firmly stuffed body with stitch jointing at shoulders, funnel jointing at hips. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: WPA Handcraft Project #10235 Milwaukee Wisconsin sponsored by Milwaukee County and Milwaukee State Teachers (body stamp). Condition: Milwaukee WPA artist's project, created circa 1935 during the Great Depression, as a means of providing work and also preserving American history. Value Points: fine original condition is beautifully preserved, the dress, underwear and apron each bear the WPA stamp, as well as the fully signed doll.
