Description
9" (23 cm.) x7"d. x 5"h. The wooden sewing box is richly-fitted with tortoise-shell and bone, with ball and claw carved feet, lion's head handles at each side, and hinges open to reveal a gold silk draped inside lid, and well-fitted base with tortoise and bone lidded boxes, needle-holders, silver thimble and finger protector and various sewing tools including scissors. Excellent condition. Early 19th century, the silver medallion on the lid is inscribed "C. Sumner 1815".
