Description
3 1/2" (9 cm.) l. painting. 5" x 5 1/2" frame. The oval painting on bone depicts a semi-profile portrait of the Duchess of Devonshire, having long flowing hair beneath an exuberant wide-brimmed red hat with blue feathers, and wearing peach dress with organza collar, holding a single rose. Set in oval brass frame with black wooden surround. Ink lettered on reverse "Duchess of Devonshire", the portrait depicting the 18th century socialite and fashion icon. Excellent condition. Mid-1800s.
