8" (20 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead, black painted hair with feathering around the face, painted blue eyes, closed mouth, kid body with mitten-shaped hands, wearing original nun's habit including hooded cape and rosary. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1885. Value Points: included is a wooden pulpit with a chained copy of Holy Bible attached; a label on the underside describes the history of "chaining of single books in churches" dating back to a 1547 injunction by Edward VI. This particular miniature pulpit and bible were created by David Bryce publishers under permission from the queen in 1839. Also included is a miniature Catholic Prayer Book.
